Daphne and Dave - The Buxton Pudding Co. Love Story

For the past five years we have been visited by the love birds, or should I say, love ducks - Daphne and Dave (David on a Sunday). Every year they know to come to us for scraps of crumble and homemade bread, they have great taste. They often wander up to our driveway and wait patiently for us to walk out to the end to give them the goods. Dave is quite the gentleman and often waits for his lady friend to eat her portion first and then he will tuck in. Every year we worry about them when they disappear for months on end, but every year (without fail) we will rock up to work one morning and they will be waiting by the end of the driveway with a judging eye implying that we were late serving their breakfast.

There is also a time every year where Dave turns up on his own, running pregnancy errands for Daphne. Springtime comes around and we await the arrival of a baker’s dozen of ducklings, and 2021 was no exception - 13 babies appeared last week trotting around the car park.

Although Daphne and Dave seem to be great parents, they can be a little irresponsible when it comes to introducing them to water. The River Goyt runs straight past the industrial park and there is a sheer 15-foot drop from the car park to the river, every year their babies get trapped in the car park and every year we have to perform a rescue mission and return them safely to their parents. Luckily this year we had handyman Warren on hand with a box and great duckling herding skills, so as you can see from the pictures below he delivered them safely to their parents and thus concludes another year of Daphne and Dave.
